Generational Beauty

I recently came accross this picture of my Mom (all the way to the left) my Grandmother, my Great Grandmother, and my Aunt. I am not quite sure when this picture was taken...maybe in the 60's? It is amazing to me the differences and similarities in beauty from those generations to our so called "Generation X". It seems as if beauty was very demure but my Mother definitely has that sultry look that we see today. She doesn't have smoky eyes and lips that are painted a nude color...my Aunt doesn't have so much blush on that her cheeks look freshly pinched...they rely on their natural charm to shine through! It seems that they were comfortable in their own skin and used their body language to show their sex appeal instead of piling on products...how refreshing!

Bridal Blog 101

I had the pleasure of interviewing Janie Medley Flora of Janie Medley Flora Design and creator of The Bride's Cafe (http://www.thebridescafe.typepad.com/). A bride myself, I am always searching for great wedding ideas and when I came upon Janie's blog, I fell in love. In my opinion, it is the best wedding blog around, offering great visuals and great tips for the bride to be.

Janie is not only beautiful but a talented floral designer too. You can feel her sense of southern hospitality when you enter her Cafe!!! Check out her interview below.

Linsey: What made you decide to start your very own blog?
Janie: I have always wanted to have my own magazine…one that is full of inspiration and beauty…and one that inspires women to live their dreams and start their own businesses. My passion is to help others and what a better way…than through my blog.

Linsey: What have you learned from your readers?
Janie: I have learned that everyone has their own story to tell and that we all are “girly-girls”!

Linsey: What inspires you?
Janie: Everything about flowers inspires me…they are all simply beautiful and have always put a smile on my face and flowers can totally transform a room!

Linsey: What is your favorite type of flower?
Janie: That’s a very hard question…when I’m designing, I refer to my flowers as “my children”, so I don’t have a favorite combination but I do love the simplicity and elegance of peonies!

Linsey: If you got married tomorrow, what would your dream wedding be?
Janie: Oh My Gosh Linsey….being that I have never been married and at this point in my life I really don’t think about it…..I’m to busy planning my brides beautiful day and busy making my business dreams a reality; but if I had to give you an answer….my wedding would be a huge celebration….I have so many friends and family and they would ALL be there. Of course, beautiful flowers everywhere…mainly I would just want everyone to have fun and “PARTY”! I have so many things to be thankful for…so many wonderful blessings!!!!

Linsey: If you were a bride tomorrow, what would your beauty style be? Romantic, Stunning, or Sultry?
Janie: I am totally a “Romantic”! I’m love the vintage vibe mixed with a little “old school”!

Linsey: What can't you live without in your beauty routine?
Janie: I can not live without my moisturizer and my lip gloss!!! Gotta have both!

Linsey: Would you prefer to do your own makeup at your wedding or have a makeup artist work her/his magic?
Janie: To sit back and relax and let the “Pros” take care! I love being pampered and letting the experts do their thing!

Janie is a wedding guru and her answers and advice are much appreciated! Janie-Keep doing what you do and everyone should check out http://www.thebridescafe.typepad.com/ for all of Janie's amazing wedding information!

These are pictures of one of the most beautiful brides we have ever worked with! She was married just a few short months ago at The Bowery Hotel, and she was glowing. All together there were 14 girls and each one of them was a knockout. Melissa has amazing cheekbones, so it was essential to play them up with a little Upper Crust Dust right along her cheekbone line. We added some black liner on her upper lid and a little clarifier on her inner bottom lashline. Lots of mascara, and some Palm Beach Pink Embellblush to pop her cheeks even more and Melissa was ready to party.

I noticed that Melissa's skin was amazing and she mentioned that she had a few facials before her wedding. I think the key for brides is to start really early with a beauty routine, don't wait. Melissa's teeth were gleaming white and it made her smile even more stunning. We wish Melissa and Alex all of the best in their new life together!!
